Going the Extra "Green" Mile

As companies in the promotional products industry continue to vie for "green" bragging rights, it may be difficult for eco-conscious consumers to determine the best quality organic products that adhere to international standards. As one of the first promotional product suppliers certified by Oregon Tilth to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), offers a comprehensive line of organic T-shirts, fleece, hats and bags for the promotional products industry and earth-conscious customers.

Founder and owner Dale Denkensohn knows the importance of having a certified company under GOTS. With an international reputation in both eco and social standard commitments, GOTS ensures the integrity of every part of the supply chain, from the origin of raw materials to the treatment of employees. GOTS also includes guidelines for the proper use of dyes in the manufacturing process, and lists prohibited substances. "This certification is important to us because customers can be assured of where their products are coming from and how people are treated in the manufacturing process," says Denkensohn. Under GOTS, employees are guaranteed fair wages and a clean, safe working environment.

As one of the pioneers of organic and sustainable manufacturing for Patagonia in the early 1990s, Denkensohn looks for other eco-friendly materials to include in the production of the econscious line when appropriate. In addition to organic cotton, the company uses recycled polyester in some of their fleece, headwear and bag items. "econscious is built on the principle of bringing peace of mind to customers and providing quality and comfortable apparel to its customers," says Denkensohn.
