Good business sense includes connecting with your customers on an emotional level, said Fred Sarkari, at yesterday's Lunch and Learn session, How the Top 5% Think: Principles of Great Leaders.
"We make a lot of buying decisions based on emotion," said Sarkari, president of management consultancy Leadership for Life. He explained that successful business owners need to visualize their successes and take risks where necessary to grow their businesses - and their clients' businesses.
"The next time you talk to a client, whether it's face to face or via e-mail or telephone, ask yourself what emotions you left your customer with," he said. "If you can't answer that question, you need to re-evaluate your definition of commitment." To really connect with a client, Sarkari advised the audience to help the customer visualize the end results of a project. "They should feel that you're really listening to them, and that you want them to succeed," he said. "And, challenge them to try things that they're fearful of."
